Senior Backend Software Engineer

Senior Software Engineers are an intrinsic part of the RAC, delivering its technical vision through superb software engineering best practices. As one of the most senior voices in our digital team, you’ll embody quality, agility, and innovation—helping shape the future of our technology landscape. 

What you’ll do

• Be a key technical practitioner within your product team, driving best practices, accurate estimations, and creative problem-solving.
• Take ownership of technical designs, innovative solutions, and practical recommendations across the technology function.
• Champion improvements to RAC’s services and customer experience through proactive technical exploration.
• Ensure architecture and technologies align with RAC’s business needs.
• Play a central role in the RAC Technology Design community, promoting good practice and adherence to principles.
• Provide operational support and technical advice to Service Management.
• Lead recruitment and onboarding of new engineers.
• Engineer high-quality software using .NET Core, C#, JavaScript, React, SQL, and Azure Cloud & Kubernetes.
• Take a leadership role within engineering squads—mentoring, coaching, and guiding without direct line management.
• Contribute to and maintain digital architecture artefacts, ensuring clarity and strategic alignment.
• Stay ahead of emerging technologies, ensuring tools adopted are fit for purpose and commercially viable.
• Interface with stakeholders to translate complex or incomplete requests into actionable solutions.
• Provide architectural and design input across diverse business domains.
• Own and manage technical debt, prioritising effectively.
• Drive quality obsession across your team, improving standards and practices continuously.

• Proven experience in backend engineering with leadership responsibilities.
• Deep expertise in .NET Core, C#, JavaScript, React, SQL, and cloud-native development in Azure.
• Strong understanding of Kubernetes and container orchestration.
• In-depth knowledge of agile methodologies and software engineering lifecycle best practices.
• Passion for automation and continuous improvement.
• Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and time management skills.
• Ability to coach and mentor engineers of all levels.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
• Self-motivated, creative, and efficient in solving complex, time-critical problems.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a dynamic environment.
