Apply now

As a Principal Software Engineer in the UiPath IXP organization, you will shape the technical direction of our intelligent document processing platform and the systems powering AI-driven extraction at enterprise scale.

You will provide technical leadership, architectural vision, and strategic ownership across multiple services - influencing how we design, build, and operate distributed systems globally. You will guide the evolution of backend services, real-time pipelines, and platform infrastructure, ensuring they meet the reliability, scalability, and security demands of enterprise customers.

You will develop a deep understanding of the product and its end-to-end architecture, driving engineering strategy that is grounded in real customer and business impact. You will lead by influence - raising the technical bar across teams, identifying systemic risks and opportunities, and owning outcomes that span the full engineering lifecycle.

Technical Leadership & Vision

  • Define and drive the long-term architectural direction for core backend and platform systems supporting enterprise-scale workloads.
  • Identify systemic technical risks and opportunities, leading cross-team initiatives that improve scalability, reliability, and developer productivity.
  • Establish engineering standards, architectural principles, and best practices adopted across the organization.
  • Partner with product and engineering leadership to translate business strategy into clear, actionable technical execution.

Distributed Systems & Platform Engineering

  • Design and own large-scale distributed backend systems, with a focus on correctness, availability, and operational excellence.
  • Solve hard concurrency, performance, and data consistency problems across services and infrastructure.
  • Drive platform investments that improve system resilience, observability, and deployment efficiency across cloud environments.
  • Work across the stack - from API design and service architecture to database schema, infrastructure-as-code, and CI/CD - owning end-to-end delivery of complex technical initiatives.
  • Engage with complex infrastructure requirements around data security, multi-tenancy, compliance, and regulated customer environments.

Product & Engineering Strategy

  • Develop a thorough understanding of the IXP product, its architecture, and how engineering decisions affect customer outcomes.
  • Contribute to and challenge product strategy from an engineering perspective, surfacing trade-offs and shaping roadmap priorities.
  • Translate ambiguous, long-horizon product problems into concrete engineering plans with clear milestones and measurable outcomes.
  • Ensure that the platform evolves in a way that is coherent, maintainable, and fit for purpose - not just for today's requirements, but for the direction the product is heading.

Collaboration & Engineering Culture

  • Work closely with senior engineers and team leads across IXP to align on architectural direction and shared platform concerns.
  • Mentor engineers at all levels, raising the technical bar through code review, design feedback, and hands-on pairing.
  • Contribute to hiring by identifying and evaluating strong engineering talent.
  • Champion engineering best practices, operational discipline, and a culture of continuous improvement.

What you'll bring to the team

  • 7+ years designing and operating large-scale distributed commercial systems.
  • Demonstrated impact beyond a single team, influencing architecture or engineering direction across multiple groups.
  • Deep expertise in backend systems, distributed architectures, concurrency, and performance optimization.
  • Strong experience with cloud ecosystems (Azure, AWS, or GCP) and container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, Helm).
  • Proficiency in Python or comparable backend languages; Rust or other systems languages a strong plus.
  • Experience with distributed databases and data platforms (e.g., PostgreSQL, CockroachDB, Elasticsearch).
  • A strong end-to-end product sense - the ability to connect engineering decisions to customer outcomes and business strategy.
  • Strong architectural judgment and ability to evaluate trade-offs across scale, complexity, and delivery timelines.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences and build alignment across engineering and product stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of GNU/Linux and production operations.
