Associate Software Engineer

We re looking for an Associate Software Engineer to join our team on a 12-month fixed-term contract. As part of this role, you ll be working with the Reward and Free to Play tribe, aiming to deliver fast, innovative, and trusted experiences that enhance player enjoyment, provide valuable rewards, and engage our customers by elevating the sport.

You ll join a supportive team that understands the Play and Reward technology and is focused on delivering high-quality products that create engaging customer experiences. The team provides operational support for the SBG Free to Play apps (web, mobile, and native), as well as the Sports Generosity systems across our UKI region brands: Sky Betting and Gaming, Paddy Power, Betfair, and Betfair International / Brazil.

Responsibilities

• Developing maintainable and well-structured frontend code under guidance.
• Writing unit tests and contributing to the quality of the codebase.
• Participating in team discussions, stand-ups, and code reviews.
• Pair programming/shadowing/mentorship to support learning through doing.
• Supporting the continuous improvement of features and performance.
• Keeping documentation up to date and learning about automation opportunities.

Requirements

• Familiarity or hands-on experience with React, PHP, Node.js, or JavaScript is highly valued.
• A good foundation in frontend development and a willingness to learn is what matters most.
• Exposure to technologies across the stack, including Java, TypeScript, AWS, Kafka, Spring, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Experience (or interest) in working with high-traffic, scalable platforms.
• Developing an understanding of client-server protocols like SOAP and REST APIs.
• Awareness of basic design patterns and reusable code practices.
• Eager to learn, open to feedback, and ready to grow within a collaborative environment.
• Strong communication, teamwork, and a problem-solving mindset.
