Backend Engineer

We're looking for a Backend Engineer to help design, build, and scale our manufacturing OS. You'll work directly on our FastAPI-based backend with the challenging task of designing highly-scalable system architectures to handles 1000s of real-time data streams across 100s of manufacturing processes. What makes this especially challenging is generalising across different use cases and customer environments. We need to be super flexible without compromising on performance and code sanity 6 from beer bottle factories to aerospace components. You'll juggle back and forth between: 1) creating API endpoints for our edge devices, 2) improving the efficiency of database queries, 3) integrating new features in our frontend dashboard 4) plus more.

This isn't your typical dev gig 6 expect to work hard and collaborate with an exceptional team of top engineers, scientists, and builders, all obsessed with embodied AI reshaping the manufacturing world.

Responsibilities

• A backend behemoth: You write clean, scalable, high-performance backend code. You take pride in your craft.
• Bonus points for familiarity or mastery with our tech stack: FastAPI and pydantic, postgres, sqlalchemy, etc.
• Happy with (or ready to learn about) all the usual add-ons like Redis, Celery, New Relic, Sentry; and deploying to production with good CI/CD/testing/logging practices.
• People person: you love working in teams, sharing knowledge, mentoring/teaching others, and embracing feedback (and yes, you're always game for a team Lego-building break).
• You're adaptable and thrive in dynamic environments where every day brings new challenges.

Requirements

• Probably have a master's in engineering / computer science / maths or related field.
• Ideally 3+ years of industry experience.
• Capable of setting and reaching ambitious goals, and taking a project from concept to completion.
• Self-directed, self-organised, proactive, and comfortable in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary work environment.
• Team players with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Enthusiastic tea or coffee drinkers who enjoy a good biscuit or two and a good slice of cake (this is the most important criteria).
