Software Developer Committee

As a Software Developer, you will design and build technology solutions that benefit YCC s operations. Your work will span web development, backend systems, and UI/UX design, depending on your strengths and the team s needs.

You ll collaborate closely with the rest of the Tech Team to implement the department s strategy, whilst having the autonomy to propose improvements and experiment with new approaches. This role suits someone who enjoys turning problems into working solutions, values well-structured code and clear documentation, and wants to build real-world experience in a collaborative environment. The most important requirements are your ability to learn quickly, communicate clearly, and maintain high standards for security and usability.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the YCC Tech Team to implement the department s strategy
• Support and mentor other team members (and the wider committee) as required
• Ensure YCC follows best practices in security, usability, and privacy in their technology solutions
• Assist in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues
• Document solutions, standards, and workflows to maintain knowledge sharing across the organisation
• Stay up-to-date with relevant technology trends and apply learning to improve YCC systems
• Willingness to support projects in other specialities
• Actively participate in weekly team meetings
• Attend semesterly committee meetings

What we're looking for

• Experience in one or more areas: web development, backend development, UI/UX design
• Proficiency with relevant languages or frameworks (e.g., JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, R) or design tools (e.g., Figma)
• Understanding of web technologies (e.g., HTML, CSS, REST APIs)
• Commitment to secure coding and data protection principles
• Good organisational and communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively
• Familiarity with Git and Agile methodology
• Willingness to learn and experiment
