The Role:
We are seeking a highly accomplished Principal Salesforce Architect specialising in the Energy & Utilities (E&U) Cloud (formerly Vlocity) to conduct an end-to-end technical, architectural, and quality review of our clients Salesforce platform.
This critical, high-impact advisory role is designed for a deep technical expert who can audit our complex Salesforce environment, which powers key consumer journeys, service desks, and billing integration points. Your primary objective will be to evaluate our custom and declarative configurations to identify technical debt, maximise processing efficiency, enforce industry best practices, and mitigate release risks.
If you are a technical leader who blends deep Vlocity/OmniStudio expertise with a robust software engineering background and a passion for architectural excellence, this role offers the opportunity to safeguard and optimize a critical utility platform.
Core Review Objectives & Responsibilities
As the Principal Architect, you will lead the comprehensive technical audit. Your responsibilities will center on four key pillars:
1. Platform Efficiency & Performance Auditing
- OmniStudio Performance: Audit and benchmark OmniStudio components, specifically focusing on optimizing complex OmniScripts, Integration Procedures, FlexCards, and DataRaptor performance to reduce lag and improve user experience.
- Integration Optimization: Review third-party API and integration frameworks especially downstream connections to billing systems to identify latencies, processing bottlenecks, and failure points.
- Scalability Assessment: Evaluate how the platform behaves under peak load and advise on structural improvements.
2. Technical Debt & Code Quality Review
- Conduct a thorough review of custom Apex code, Triggers, and Lightning Web Components (LWCs) for adherence to best practices, governor limit management, and maintainability.
- Identify redundant, deprecated, or poorly structured configurations and provide a prioritised remediation roadmap.
- Review the overall data model, object relationships, and field usage for inefficiencies.
3. Release Management & Risk Mitigation
- Assess the current deployment pipeline, change management processes, and sandbox strategy to identify risks associated with releases.
- Evaluate the test coverage, quality of unit tests, and overall CI/CD practices.
- Provide recommendations to strengthen the release process and reduce production incidents.
4. Architectural Standards & Best Practices
- Benchmark the current architecture against Salesforce Well-Architected Framework principles and Vlocity/OmniStudio industry standards.
- Review security configurations, sharing rules, profiles, and permission sets for compliance and least-privilege principles.
- Deliver a comprehensive findings report with actionable recommendations, prioritised by impact and effort.
Requirements
- Demonstrable, hands-on expertise with Vlocity/OmniStudio (OmniScripts, Integration Procedures, DataRaptors, FlexCards) is essential.
- Deep knowledge of the Salesforce Energy & Utilities (E&U) Cloud data model and industry processes.
- Strong proficiency in Apex, SOQL, and the Salesforce platform generally.
- Experience with Salesforce CPQ, Billing, or similar billing integration patterns is highly advantageous.
- Proven track record of conducting technical architecture reviews or audits on large-scale Salesforce implementations.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex technical findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Relevant Salesforce certifications (e.g., Application Architect, System Architect, or OmniStudio Developer/Consultant) are strongly preferred.
