Job Overview

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer with strong backend and PostgreSQL experience to join our small, high-performing engineering team.

The focus for this role is on transactional database systems, backend architecture, query performance and the core database layer that powers some of the most critical parts of the platform.

You’ll work across the stack where needed but your real impact will be in helping us strengthen and scale the database heavy areas of the product and the systems that support high volume personalised employee engagement.

This is a key hire for the team. You’ll bring deeper database expertise into the team and play an important role in improving the resilience, scalability and performance of the platform. Key Responsibilities

Take ownership of backend and database heavy areas of the ChangeEngine platform, particularly where PostgreSQL plays a critical role.
Work closely with the engineering and product team to build, improve and maintain core product features.
Support and improve the systems behind the key product features.
Optimise database performance, including query tuning, indexing, schema design and identifying bottlenecks.
Help improve the reliability, scalability and maintainability of the database layer as the platform continues to grow.
Contribute to architectural decisions across backend services, infrastructure and data modelling.
Work across the stack when needed, particularly in a small team environment where engineers are expected to be flexible and pragmatic.
Collaborate with product and design to ensure technical solutions are not only logically sound but also usable and valuable for customers.
Document important database and backend decisions so knowledge is shared across the team.

Who you are

5+ years of software engineering experience, ideally in a product-led SaaS or start-up/scale-up environment.
Strong backend engineering experience using technologies such as TypeScript, Python or Ruby.
Deep experience with PostgreSQL, including query optimisation, relational database design and working with production-scale systems.
Comfortable working on database heavy product areas where performance, reliability and data integrity really matter.
Experience working with high-volume or complex transactional systems.
Comfortable with infrastructure and happy to get involved in areas beyond pure application code when needed.
Self-starting, inquisitive and able to work autonomously in a fully remote team
