PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

This exciting senior addition to our Content Commissioning team will lead a newly created Multiplatform Hub responsible for managing BBC Content accounts and building engaged communities on key third-party services such as YouTube, TikTok, Roblox and more. Prioritising targeted content for young audiences (13-34), this role will work directly with the commissioning teams in Factual, Entertainment, Drama and Comedy, as well as BBC iPlayer, other content areas and social media teams across the BBC, with an empowered remit to find young audiences where they are, deepen engagement with the BBC, and champion emerging and established creator talent and new forms of content.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT

You’ll develop and lead on multi-platform content and audience growth strategy for young audiences within core genres, with a particular focus on extending the reach and impact of content in line with our commitments to delivering portrayal and representation.

Selected key responsibilities will include:

  • Act as a senior expert on audience behaviours, emerging content trends, platform developments and innovative formats, ensuring we remain at the forefront of industry best practice
  • Identify and drive new opportunities to maximise content discovery, engagement and audience growth across broadcast, streaming, and key third-party services such as YouTube and social media platforms
  • Lead the development and commissioning of innovative content, formats and editorial propositions, including managing commissioning for BBC 3, to deliver against strategic audience and organisational objectives
  • Provide expert editorial leadership and strategic advice to genre and content teams on content development, audience engagement, distribution strategies and routes to market.
  • Oversee the Division’s YouTube strategy and channel portfolio, driving audience growth, engagement, optimisation and platform performance
  • Work with social media teams to develop high-impact content strategies that grow audiences, build communities and encourage deeper engagement with BBC content and brands
  • Influence and support commissioning teams to adopt audience-first and multi-platform approaches, embedding new thinking and practices across the organisation
  • Lead cultural and organisational transformation, championing innovation, experimentation and modern content development and distribution models
  • Build strong relationships across the BBC, with internal partners such as Radio 1 and BBC Sport, as well as Chief Customer Officer Group (CCOG), BBC News, BBC Studios and with external partners, using credibility, expertise and influence to drive collaboration and strategic alignment
  • Use audience insight and analytics, performance data and market intelligence to inform decision-making, measure success and continually optimise content and distribution strategies.
  • Represent the organisation externally with platforms, partners, creators and industry stakeholders, building the organisation’s profile and strategic influence
  • Line manage the youth commissioning and services teams, providing strong leadership, and supporting career development and performance management as appropriate, as well as providing outstanding values-based leadership to a wide range of teams across the BBC

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Significant senior leadership experience in media, broadcasting, digital content, audience development or a related sector
  • Deep expertise and thought leadership in multiplatform content strategy, audience growth and digital content distribution
  • Proven success growing audiences and engagement across YouTube, social media and other digital platforms
  • Strong understanding of younger audiences, evolving consumption behaviours and emerging content trends
  • Excellent editorial judgement, with experience commissioning, developing and evaluating content and formats
  • Demonstrable experience managing commissioning, content or investment budgets and delivering measurable outcomes
  • Strong knowledge of content discovery, platform ecosystems, audience engagement and performance optimisation
  • Proven track record of leading organisational transformation, cultural change and the adoption of new ways of working
  • Exceptional ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive change across complex organisations through collaboration and credibility
  • Strong strategic, analytical and commercial skills, using audience insight and performance data to inform decisions
  • Experience building effective partnerships with platforms, creators, producers and external stakeholders
  • Outstanding communication and leadership skills, with experience building, leading and developing high-performing teams
