Senior Network Engineer
Salary: £55,000 - 95,000 per year
Requirements:- Strong routing and switching knowledge, including OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, summarisation, redistribution, route maps and path selection.
- Experience configuring VLAN trunking, EtherChannel and Layer 2 redundancy.
- Experience with enterprise LAN, WAN and data centre architecture.
- Knowledge of data centre technologies including Cisco Nexus, Catalyst, vPC, VXLAN/EVPN, ACI and fabric architectures.
- Experience in network migration and transformation projects.
- Ability to analyse, review and understand network topologies.
- Experience designing rack layouts and structured cabling for medium data centres.
- Ability to coordinate multiple projects, change management and governance, working independently and as part of a team.
- Strong TCP/IP, subnetting, VLAN, VRF, ACL, NAT, DNS and DHCP knowledge.
- Advanced troubleshooting skills using packet captures, logs, flow data and monitoring tools.
- Experience with resilient network design including HSRP/VRRP, port-channeling and redundant uplinks.
- Firewall, security zoning, rulebase and traffic-flow validation experience.
- Experience producing LLDs, implementation plans, test plans, handovers, as-built documentation and network diagrams.
- Good customer-facing skills with the ability to keep customers informed and understand their requirements.
- Desirable: automation or scripting experience in Python.
- Desirable: exposure to Ansible, Terraform, YAML, NetBox, Git or CI/CD pipelines.
- We plan, manage and deploy technology changes to support data centre services.
- We deploy LAN infrastructure to support end-user service requirements.
- We manage patching schedules for facilities to cable network equipment.
- We create diagrams for Network Operations.
- We manage inventory.
- We create detailed implementation plans for RFCs.
- We document pre-checks and post-checks for change verification.
- We document back-out plans, including back-out points and points of no return.
- We plan changes to support the stability and uptime of essential services.
- We identify opportunities to complete changes with zero downtime to hosted services.
- We plan and implement changes using a cost-effective resource strategy.
- We identify, understand and document change risks and mitigation tactics.
- We document the impact of planned technology changes and expected verification outputs.
- We document the network estate to support operations and change planning.
- We peer review and validate technical deployment plans.
- We provide constructive feedback to peers to maintain high standards of detail and quality.
