Staff Software Engineer, Service Tools

📋 Description

• Own platform-spanning areas of the developer lifecycle end to end.
• Lead multi-quarter workstreams: agentic workflows, build infra, testing excellence, and code review.
• Drive AI-assisted development platform and telemetry to guide decisions.
• Scale build/merge infrastructure for a large JVM monorepo (Bazel, remote build, caching).
• Shape technical strategy to improve Developer Experience and Velocity.
• Mentor engineers and promote adoption of new capabilities across Airbnb.

🎯 Requirements

• 9+ years with a degree, or 6+ years with a PhD; CS or equivalent preferred.
• Proficiency in one or more back-end server languages (Java/Kotlin/Ruby/Go/C++/etc.).
• Experience with architecture of high-scale distributed products; APIs, data pipelines, efficient
• Influence across teams; cross-functional collaboration with design, product, data science.
• Hands-on JVM experience; performance, memory, startup behavior of large builds/tests.
• Fluency with AI-assisted development stack: agents, tool integrations, evaluation, telemetry.

🎁 Benefits

• Pay range: $212,000 – $265,000 USD.
